Spring 2014     New

Dear BASD Parents and Community Members,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!

As a public school district, the BASD's doors are open to every student in our community. Our mission is to serve the diverse needs of each and every one of our students. We accomplish this mission through robust academic and extracurricular programs that provide opportunities for all students to pursue their passions. Our neighborhood elementary schools provide a strong foundation for student success with a focus on parent involvement as well as on student academic and social growth. Our middle schools and high schools provide unparalleled opportunities for students to be challenged academically as well as to stretch themselves through participation in award winning theater companies, musical groups and athletic teams.

Every year, graduates of Liberty and Freedom gain admission to elite colleges including Harvard, Dartmouth, UPenn, Princeton, Lehigh and Duke. These highly successful graduates take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities available through our district's "Roadmap to Educational Excellence". I encourage you to see for yourself the opportunities available to students by viewing three short videos found on YouTube.

Our plans for building a new Nitschmann Middle School are underway with construction to begin in 2015 with the new school opening on the same site in the fall of 2017.

Along with updated facilities and a solid financial foundation for the district, we are seeing strong growth in the areas of Advance Placement exams, extending learning opportunities and improving school safety. BASD is on the move toward once again receiving recognition as one of the top school districts in the state.

I encourage you to stay abreast of district news and events via Twitter (@basdsupt and @basdjacksilva) and through our district email group. You can sign up for the district email group here.

We are committed to serving the needs of each child so that all students achieve their dreams. When families and schools work together - the sky's the limit!

Sincerely,

Joseph J. Roy, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
