  Parent as Teachers Program - Parent Educator

Location: Marvine Family Center at Marvine Elementary School


The Bethlehem Area School District is seeking a Parent Educator for it’s Parents as Teachers (PAT) program located in the Marvine Family Center at Marvine Elementary School. PAT parent educators work with children ages 0-5 and their families.
A certified parent educator is required to implement the PAT model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being in their work and interactions with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational and Model Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educators partner, facilitate, and reflect with families during in-home visits and through monthly group connection events.

The ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish is strongly preferred.
It is acceptable for parent educators to have a two-year degree or 60 college hours in early childhood or a related field, but a bachelor or four-year degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
Supervised experience working with young children and/or parents is also recommended.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to establish a positive rapport with families and empower them by building on their own strengths.
Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
Ability to work independently and be self-motivated, as this position will require the successful candidate to conduct frequent home visits with parents/families. Computer skills (including but not limited to web browsing, email, internet, data entry, and word processing) and the ability to learn new software and online programs easily and quickly.
Willingness to attend occasional evening events.
The successful candidate will be required to attend a mandatory 5-day PAT certification and training course in Camp Hill, PA from August 19-23. This requirement and these dates are non-negotiable.
