EMERGENCY INFORMATION: Bethlehem Police Department Press Release Regarding Tip Involving Liberty High School Incident
March 19, 2019 - 9:58 am
The Bethlehem Police Department received an anonymous tip about a man with a firearm in the area around Liberty High School. In an abundance of caution, the students and staff at Liberty were instructed to remain in place while police officers were dispatched to check the area and interior of the school. It was ultimately determined that what the tipster observed was a student carrying a nonfunctioning drill rifle used for theatrical functions.
We are satisfied that there is no, nor was there ever, a threat to the school or the community.
The safety of our school students is of utmost importance to the Bethlehem Police Department and as such we will continue to investigate any reports of potential danger. We encourage anyone who feels they have knowledge of an eminent threat of violence to call 9-1-1 immediately and reserve the use of anonymous tip lines for less urgent matters.
At this time the students and staff of Liberty High School have been allowed to resume their normal day.
Any questions or information about this incident can be directed to Capt. Hackett at 610 997 7677.
Our MissionThe Bethlehem Area School District, in partnership with the home and community, is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment in which each student will attain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become a productive citizen and life-long learner in our technologically demanding and culturally diverse society.
