Act 48 is:

• a continuing professional education law passed November 9, 1999
• applies to all holders of Pennsylvania Department of Education certificates
• law became effective July 1, 2000
• must complete one or a combination of the following requirements every five years:
  • 6 credits of collegiate study
  • 6 continuing professional education credits
  • 180 hours of approved continuing professional educational activities
• identifies categories of approved professional development activities
• requires each professional employe to maintain an active certificate for continued employment
