| SCHOOL-BASED
FAMILY SERVICES
The Bethlehem Area School District has been offering support
services to children and their families since July 1, 1994. School-based
family support services were founded on the principle that the most effective
way to ensure the healthy growth and development of children is to support
their families and the communities in which they live. This also represents
a process involving segments of the community working as equal partners
to identify and achieve a vision that can be shared and mutually supported.
The goal is to provide families with a seamless network of services that
can be easily accessed through a local school.
To date there are many schools in the Bethlehem Area School
District that provide school-based family services. Each Family Center
is unique to each school, however, all Family Centers provide similar
services.
The school-based family support services include:
- Social Services
- Community linkages
- Information groups
- Health care services and clinics
- In-home child development education
- Educational workshops
- Information about finding employment
- Adult education
- Literacy instruction
- Prevention and reunification of families involved with
foster care
- After-school programs for children and their families
- Summer recreational and enrichment programs
FOR CHILDREN WE OFFER:
Pediatric clinics, early intervention services, vision health care, dental
health care, immunizations, asthma prevention and education services,
lead screening, in-home parenting program for 0-5 years old, referral
to child care providers and many after-school programs.
FOR ADULTS WE OFFER:
Health care for uninsured adults, tuberculosis clinics and screenings,
OB-GYN clinic, support and parenting education, prenatal health care,GED/ESOL/ABE,
foster care prevention and intervention.
