STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SAP)

The Bethlehem Area School District has launched a comprehensive campaign to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among its students. An integral part of that plan is a Student Assistance Program (SAP) that will help identify high-risk students in our secondary schools. Core teams, composed of administrators, faculty members, guidance counselors, school nurses, and the school psychologist, have been set up at all middle and high schools.

Students with potential drug or alcohol-related problems can be referred to the team to determine if a drug/alcohol assessment needs to be conducted. The program is not structured to treat students. The main objective of the Student Assistance Program is to identify students with possible drug/alcohol problems and refer them to the proper community agency for assessment and treatment. With both community and parental support, we feel the Student Assistance Program will be extremely beneficial to many of our students. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the middle and high schools.

Drug and alcohol prevention programs, as well as violence prevention programs, are conducted at the elementary, middle, and high school levels at various times throughout the year.
